How Replication Works
Replication is simply the ability to capture a moment in time of a disk volume and replicate it to a different location. It allows the remote copy of data not only to function as a backup, but it provides the ability to move back to a specific point-in-time to recover systems to a moment before a significant event such as data corruption or application failure. This is why the speed and lack of impact to operations of replication is so significant. Replication operations can be scheduled to keep business impacts low and can be used to restore your business operations within minutes.
It's Easy – 4 Clicks to Setting up Remote Replication
Within a single setup screen and 4 clicks, AssuredRemote delivers to the IT community the ability to quickly protect their storage environment. Using the existing point-in-time snapshot technology AssuredRemote only captures changed data thereby limiting the amount of data copied across to the remote site.
Unlike other replication technologies the AssuredRemote implementation is both easy and fast, and it also reduces the size of snapshots by storing only a single instance of changed blocks. This method minimizes the amount of data to be copied across already stressed data lines and may reduce the need for additional communication links. To further lessen the burden on external links, the IT administrators can perform the first initial copy locally and move the disks to the remote site thereby avoiding the cost/time of the first full data copy.
Innovative Design Features of the 3000 Arrays with AssuredRemote:
- The choice of either Ethernet or Fiber Channel interconnectivity
- Mix drive types between the primary and remote sites – i.e. SAS and SATA
- Intermix chassis types among sites – 2u24 vs. 2u12
- Ethernet ports can be used for both local and replication traffic
- Replication snapshots can be used for both local and remote recovery
- Remote site can be ‘stood up' for a period then ‘failed back' to the primary site to resume normal operations
- Bi-directional replication allows a to act as both a primary and a remote site
Key Data Protection Applications
| Peer sites with failover - disaster recovery | Replicate data between sites to fully protect your data |
| Centralized backup | Replicate data from remote offices to centrally manage backup operations |
| Off site data storage | Replicate data to a remote site for regulatory compliance |
| Primary site planned outage | Use the DR site while the primary site is down then failback to the primary site |
Associated Storage Arrays
AssuredRemote is available with the 3720 and 3730 fibre Channel arrays, as well as the 3920 and 3930 multiprotocol fibre channel and iSCSI arrays.
