Network Systems Administrator - Longmont
Description
The Network Systems Administrator position requires a versatile technical individual with a background in designing, implementing and supporting networking systems. This individual is responsible for performing the following duties: management of Cisco LAN and WAN network environments, VOIP services, wireless, and security of local and wide area network in a multi-site environment and system support/management. They must be able to evaluate, recommend and support policy and procedures for LAN, WAN, routers, switches, firewall, VPN, and hardware systems, administrative system hardware environment and web hardware and connectivity. They will be directly responsible for the implementations and the maintenance of networked systems, infrastructure, and other related sub-systems to provide efficient resource utilization and performance. In addition, they will be involved in procurement recommendations.
The Network Systems Administrator will interface with clients and vendors on a regular basis. They will consult with software and hardware vendors and other establishment workers to solve problems impeding network access, review quality of service issues, and identify needs. As such excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Requirements
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Requires three to five years of technical experience in networking technologies in a Cisco environment.
- Excellent technical skills with a proven track record in network design and support efforts.
- Expertise in network design and implementation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Should possess excellent time management, decision making and analytical skills.
General Skills Must Include:
- Good communications (written and oral) and documentation skills.
- Ability to work closely with team members. Must be a team oriented person.
- Strong Project Management skills.
- Working knowledge or experience with PC based server platforms.
- Must have strong work ethic.
- Network management and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of wide area technologies
- IP protocol suite and the associated routing issues
- Demonstrated knowledge of layer 2/3 networking concepts and issues.
- LAN protocol management to include address management and network protocol configuration (TCP/IP, NetBIOS, etc.).
- Familiarity with the Cisco product line. Good understanding of firewalls and network security measures including PIX and ASA hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to determine, evaluate and diagnose network and application performance issues.
- Experience with various network troubleshooting tools such as TCPdump, Wireshark, Snort, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with VOIP including Cisco Call Manager and Unity software.
- Knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), VLANs, trunking, and STP.
- Strong skills in PC server applications and environment are a plus.
- Experience with UNIX (SUN Solaris & Linux) is a plus.
- Experience with open-source products such as Linux and Apache in production environments is desirable.
- Varied and technical background that would include extensive, communications systems, data center operational support and desktop computing.
- Experience with NT/200x, MS Exchange, and Windows based systems.
- Experience with systems management & networking on multiple computing platforms.
- Specific understanding of industry trends and standards required.
- Cisco certification is desirable.
